Save your job Josh McDaniels – play Tim Tebow!
You have to give Broncos QB Kyle Orton a lot of credit. He's one of the NFL's good guys.
At Purdue he wore #18 as homage to his boyhood idol, Nebraska Star QB Brook Berringer, who died
in a plane crash just days before the 1996 NFL Draft. Orton kept the number when he signed with
the Bears and wanted to wear #18 as a Bronco but couldn't because for some reason the number is
actually retired. That's right "legendary" QB Frank Tripucka, Denver's first signal caller, wore 18
for the 3-plus years he played for Denver in which he threw 51 TDs and 85 interceptions.
Coming to Denver as an afterthought, thrown in as an extra in the Jay Cutler trade, Orton has
beenimpressive this season. He currently ranks 2nd in the NFL in passing yards and his main
target -- the reborn Brandon Lloyd -- is first in receiving yards.
With all that firepower on offense, why is this team 2-6?
No leadership.
Sorry Orton. But there's no leadership on offense, no leadership on defense. And, apparently, no
leadership from any of the coaches.
The good news for Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels -- his sometimes second-string QB Tim Tebow
has enough leadership to fill the void of the 53 other players who evidently don't.
Plain and simple, Tebow is a winner. With half the season gone up in smoke -- much of it two
weeks ago in Denver's disgustingly embarrassing 59-14 loss to the hated Raiders -- it's time to hand
the ball to the kid.
Not McDaniels, the even younger kid -- Tebow.
By doing so, McDaniels will save his job for another year. Everyone knows you can't fire a coach
who's playing his #1 pick rookie QB. There are going to be some growing pains that everyone will
buy into... more so than the pain of watching the Broncos old defense and inept offense perform.
Tebow's mere presence on the field erupts excitement. Even the blokes in London knew about
Tebow. When he got on the field they stopped doing the Wave, and watched him use his 245-pound
superman frame to bulldoze a handful of mortal 250-pound 49ers back and to the left of the endzone
for a TD.
Fans will forgive McDaniels for at least one more season if he inserts #15 next week.
With the season already lost, give Tebow a shot by Josh!
